EMD GP-38, Conrail ex-Penn Central (CR 7825).
I started with a Kato GP38-2 and back-dated it to a GP38 by removing the flair on the
cab roof, and removing the site glass and blank marker lights from the body.
The extended-range dynamic brakes on the roof were shortened to the standard version.
The truck sideframes were removed, and replaced with Kato F3 truck sideframes.
Micro-Trains pilots were added, and a scratchbuilt M.U. hose draped across the front
stanchions. A Detail Associates bell was added under the walkway, a scratchbuilt
sunshade added over the cab window, a scratchbuilt snowplow added to the pilot and a
Pennsy-style signal box was added to the walkway in front of the cab. The
model was painted and decorated for Penn Central, then weathered moderately.
Conrail markings were added, and then the model was lightly weathered. I usually
pair this unit with the Conrail (ex-Reading) GP35.
