40-foot Stoughton trailer, Superior Freight (SFZ 8540).
This decal set from Micro-Scale always has been one of my favorites, so when the Micro-Trains
undecorated trailers became available, this was one of the first models I finished.
I airbrushed the body in Accu-Paint jade green, then masked off the roof, frame and door
hinges and airbrushed those areas bright silver. The electrical area on the nose was
masked and airbrushed a medium gray. The marker lights were highlighted with Testors Turn Signal
Orange or Stop Light Red, whichever was appropriate. I decorated the model with
the Superior Freight decals, and oversprayed with a satin clear
coat finish. the wheel bogie hardware, tires and trailer stand were painted flat black, while
the hubs were painted a gloss brown. The mud flaps were painted gloss black with a little
flex agent added, and the flap decals from the set were added, which covered up the molded-in
Fruehauf markings.
The trailer was weathered lightly by with pastels, then the
diesel exhaust residue on the roof and upper front corners was airbrushed with a black
wash until the desired build-up was achieved.
