Heavyweight turtleback-roof baggage, New Haven (NH 5574).
This model is a resin casting of a master created primarily from a rapid prototype core with etched
brass insets, all computer-designed. Wheels of Time roof vents were added to the master bodyshell
prior to casting. The floor also is a casting of a rapid prototype part that had the
centersill, bolsters and coupler mounting pads included. The casting is finished with
Gold Medal stirrups, wire grab irons, American Limited
underfloor battery boxes and diaphragms, additional parts from the Micro-Trains heavyweight
underbody, Micro-Trains couplers, Wheels of Time trucks and InterMountain
wheelsets. The reason for making castings is due to needing this baggage car in two different
consists and paint schemes. This baggage car is assigned to the Montrealer/Washingtonian consist.
The model took 1st place in the Passenger Equipment category of the model contest
at the N-Scale Collector's 18th Annual National N Scale Convention in Houston, Texas in June 2010.
