Heavyweight railway post office, New Haven (NH 3263).
This 65-foot Pecos River Brass model started out unlettered but painted for Santa Fe.
The model is very close to the cars the New Haven acquired from Maine Central. The
brass mounting plates for the rubber diaphragms were carefully pried from the body, and the
openings were filed to accept American Limited's operating diaphragms. I
disassembled the car and masked the roof before airbrushing the body in Accu-Paint's
Hunter Green. Custom decals created for the model were applied and sealed with a
light spray of clear coat. Clear styrene was carfully applied to the inside of the body
to simulate windows and secured with Goo. The American Limited diaphragms also were
secured with Goo. New holes were drilled in the floor to mount the couplers farther
inbound and reduce the coupling distance. The car was weathered with airbrush
washes of dust and grime. This R.P.O. is assigned to the Montrealer/Washingtonian consist.
