Fluted 6-4-6 sleeper, Bangor and Aroostook “South Twin Lake” (BAR 81).
I used the experimental Eastern Seaboard Models resin passenger side castings and the American Limited
core kit with Commonwealth trucks to make this model. I started by scribing the roof to simulate
the welded panels before adding the standard vents, along with stainless steel grab irons. The molded
grab irons on the end were shaved and replaced with stainless steel grab irons. All of the
components were painted prior to assembly of the model. The sides were sanded to the proper
length, painted with Alclad stainless steel and decaled before using a permanent marker to highlight
the window frames in black. I also painted the ends Alclad stainless steel. Simulated tinted glass
was attached to the car sides with
Micro-Scale Kristal Klear, followed by paper drapes over the bedroom windows and a stainless steel
handrail over the hallway windows. I added the required grab irons made from stainless steel.
A new interior vestibule wall was fabricated from styrene and painted silver. The underframe
detail was added to match the prototype. Micro-Trains couplers were body mounted to the floor.
Weight was added to the floor top, along with a simple tan-painted interior to eliminate the see-through effect.
