Alco RS-3, Boston and Maine (BM 1545).
This was a beautiful livery on the prototype, and since the B&M interchanged with the New
Haven, I decided to add this model to my roster. The Atlas Model R.R. Co. undecorated
diesel was disassembled. The standard air horns were discarded and the mounting holes
were plugged with styrene and sanded smooth. A Detail Associates three-chime air horn
was added to the roof of the cab. A steam generator was fashioned from Evergreen
styrene tubing, and secured to the cab only to allow for future disassembly. The
model was painted in Scalecoat maroon first, then masked off and painted in black.
The body was finally painted with a satin clear coat to allow for smooth decal application.
Northeast Decals for B&M Minuteman Alco units were carefully applied. The body was
finished with a satin clear coat to seal the decals. Micro-Trains pilots were added
for automated operation.
